Medical malpractice causes death of Pennsylvania man.

Pennsylvania residents are probably familiar with the term "medical malpractice." Though the phrase has become common in news headlines nationwide, many may not be aware that it can apply to the negligent behavior of a doctor or health provider in any medical field. In the aftermath of a recent tragedy, many are learning that the branch of care known as mental health is often overlooked, and can become a breeding ground for medical malpractice.

One Pennsylvania couple was devastated when their adult son, who lived at their home, lost his life as a result of an overdose of drugs prescribed to him to treat a mental health condition. By all accounts, the man had taken his medication as prescribed by the doctor. Upon his shocking death, it was discovered that the amounts of two medications that the doctor had prescribed were double the amount recommended by the Food and Drug Administration.

Upon further investigation into their son's death, the couple learned that at least one of the drugs carried a warning that an incorrect dosage could cause cardiac death. They were horrified to learn that the doctor they had trusted to help their son was actually the cause of his death. The doctor had failed to inform the man or his parents of the possible dangers, and also failed to perform testing that could have possibly detected a problem before it was too late.

Medical malpractice deaths can be especially tragic, because people seek the care of a doctor to help make them well, and trust that a medical professional will be able to properly diagnose and treat a health problem. When the negligent actions of a doctor cause harm or death, it can be difficult for victims and their families to know how to proceed. In such cases, it can be helpful to seek the aid of a compassionate attorney, who may be able to help victims and their loved ones begin to seek justice and take action against the doctor that caused them harm.
