OSHA warns of slip-and-falls danger

Though winter has begun to melt away, and spring has come to Pennsylvania at last, April showers may bring more than May flowers. Recently, OSHA made mention of a danger that many people may overlook. Slip-and-falls, often caused by wet or icy conditions, are now on a list of known dangers in several industries.

Though these sorts of accident may not sound serious, OSHA warns that, when people suffer slip-and-falls, severe injuries can result. Though the warning was issued in an updated packet on workplace safety, slip-and-falls can affect people anywhere. Much like a warehouse or factory, a store, restaurant or other public place may pose a risk to patrons.

Especially when foot traffic and wet weather combine to make floors slippery, the risk of slip-and-falls increases. If a potential hazard is not properly marked, unknowing patrons and employees may wind up suffering serious injury. OSHA is now aiming to educate employers about the danger that may be lurking on company premises, and reminding owners and managers that many injuries resulting from slip-and-falls could have easily been prevented.

Slip-and-falls can leave a victim down and out. In addition to suffering serious physical injury, victims may have to contend with a myriad of troubles in the aftermath of such an accident. Loss of wages due to inability to work, medical bills, and lasting physical pain and suffering may be among the many issues with which a victim may be burdened. Many Pennsylvania victims choose to contact an experienced attorney. An attorney can help a client explain to a court that his or her serious injury was the result of the carelessness or negligence of another party, and help see to it that a victim can collect any damages or compensation to which he or she may be entitled.
