Wrongful death claims may assist victims’ families

Losing a loved one to a motor vehicle accident is a difficult situation for any family. These types of collisions are often the fault of negligent drivers. Though nothing can replace the lives lost, filing a wrongful death claim may help families find some form of closure. One Pennsylvania family appear to have grounds to file a claim after a teenager was recently killed in a collision while riding his motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was traveling along a local highway when the crash occurred. The driver of a van attempted to make a left turn in front of the motorcycle. In doing so, the driver turned into the path of the motorcycle, causing the bike to collide with the rear passenger side of the van. The force of the impact threw the victim from the bike.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment following the crash. Reports indicate that he suffered multiple blunt-force trauma. In spite of doctors’ efforts, the victim passed away a week later due to the severity of his injuries. No injuries were reported from the driver of the van.

No criminal charges against the driver of the van have been filed. However, the family of the victim could still file a wrongful death claim in civil court. If their claim proves the driver negligent, they may then be awarded monetary damages to help cover the cost of medical bills, funeral costs or any other financial expenses related to the crash. An experienced personal injury attorney could provide information and assistance to anyone in Pennsylvania interested in filing a wrongful death claim.
