Surviving families may file workers’ compensation after accidents

A Pennsylvania worker was recently fatally injured in a construction accident. In addition to the emotional burden of losing a loved one, families in this situation may also face sudden unexpected financial concerns as well. Filing for workers’ compensation on behalf of a deceased loved one may be beneficial.

Officials say that the man was working at a storage yard one morning when the accident occurred. Specific details of the incident were not released. However, the man was said to have been working with construction equipment when he became trapped from the waist down and was subsequently crushed.

Tragically, the worker died at the scene from the injuries he suffered. The exact cause of death has not yet been released. Local police did not reveal further details of the accident, as they were waiting on final results from the coroner’s office. The local branch of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is continuing to provide assistance over the course of the investigation.

In a situation such as this where an employee is killed on the job, the surviving family may choose to file a workers’ compensation claim. If successful, the family would then be awarded financial benefits that could help pay for any medical bills, funeral costs or any other expenses related to the accident. Those who are interested in obtaining more information about such claims could consult an experienced Pennsylvania attorney to learn more. An attorney could also assist in filing the claims and aid in any future related legal proceedings.
