Workers’ compensation death benefits may help surviving families

Accidents on the job can happen in an instant. Most Pennsylvania businesses utilize various safety precautions to prevent such an incident, but sometimes injuries occur in unexpected ways. A worker in another state was recently killed while on the job at an aerostructure manufacturer. Families facing similar circumstances can secure the services of a workers’ compensation attorney to look into filing for death benefits.

Reports state that the employee was working to help move an aircraft part. For reasons that are still unclear, the load shifted while being moved by an overhead crane. This caused it to fall and crush the worker.

Tragically, the crushing injuries the worker suffered resulted in his death. The company is working with government agencies, including the local branch of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, to investigate the accident. The investigation aims to conduct interviews with witnesses and company officials and inspect equipment in an attempt to document what occurred so as to ensure this type of tragedy is not repeated in the future.

When someone is injured on the job, he or she may be entitled to file for workers’ compensation benefits. Similarly, when an employee is killed while at work, his or her surviving family could be entitled to file for death benefits on behalf of the deceased loved one. When awarded, these monetary benefits can be used to help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and other related expenses. Anyone interested in learning more about these types of claims could consult an experienced Pennsylvania workers’ compensation attorney for assistance.
