Take pictures of your injuries after a car accident

There are many steps you have to take following an auto accident. You need to contact the police to file a report and see a doctor right away to assess any injuries.

You will have some time at the scene of the collision before the police and an ambulance arrive. During this time, you should take certain steps to increase the likelihood of success with your insurance claim. You should absolutely take pictures of the scene of the car crash, but you should also take pictures of your body and the surrounding area. Every picture could help tremendously.

Document your wounds

Many people experience hidden injuries following a collision. This is why you need to see a doctor. You should receive a professional diagnosis, so you will know exactly how much money you likely need for compensation to pay for medical expenses.

However, the injuries on your person may not be readily apparent. Taking pictures proves to both your insurance agency and the other driver’s insurance company that your injuries developed as a result of the crash. A picture at the scene proves the injury occurred from the crash and not from another outside event the insurance agency would not be responsible for.

Document the surrounding area

Taking a picture of any damage on your car only tells half the story. By taking photos of the surrounding area, you help paint a clearer picture of what conditions were present that led to the crash.

For example, you can take a picture of the sky to show whether it was raining or foggy at the time of the crash. You can also take pictures of the road. Skid marks on the street may show whether a driver attempted to prevent the collision from occurring. Additionally, take pictures of street signs. An obstructed sign that prevented someone from knowing what the speed limit was can be useful in court.
