Everyone knows that drunk driving is illegal and very dangerous. Yet, people still choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, and by doing so, they endanger themselves and all those around them. Unfortunately, driving under the influence of alcohol continues to be a very real problem in the state of Pennsylvania.
A terrible accident in Lancaster County that claimed the lives of two people has been blamed on an intoxicated tractor-trailer driver. The crash happened at night in the westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike near milepost 291.2. According to accident reports, the driver of an eastbound tractor-trailer who was driving in the westbound lanes slammed head-on into a westbound pickup truck.
Police officers said another car then crashed into the two vehicles, causing only minor damage. Tragically, authorities said two women in the pickup truck were killed and another male passenger was seriously injured. Reportedly, the tractor-trailer driver tried to flee the scene but was later arrested after having a medical emergency. He was suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash, officers said.
